Jim Knowles
I have worked in NDT since 1969 when I started as a young Metallurgist and branched out into Non destructive testing. After achieving my ASNT Level II in 1973, I went on to achieve CSWIP 3.9 and PCN Level III. My work over the years has demonstrated the many difficulties that metals present in their make up, joining, ageing and geometry.
This has stood me in good stead for my research and development work, however, the most enjoyable aspect is the taking part and sharing my experiences with others.

I was appointed Secretary of the North Atlantic Section at the AGM in July 2008. I have worked for AETC Limited based in Leeds since 1977. I have a degree in Materials Science and have been involved with NDT since 1991 and currently hold ASNT and NAS410 level 3 qualifications. I am currently the Quality Manager of the Precision Casting Facility at AETC.

I have been a director on the North Atlantic Section since 2001, becoming Chairman in July 2006 until July 2010, I know look after the website.
I work for RSA PLC, Engineering section based in Manchester and have been with them since 1994. I have worked in NDT since 1982, travelling all over the UK, offshore and overseas, achieving my PCN and ASNT qualifications along the way. I now manage the NDT & Materials Testing section of RSA offering technical support to engineering surveyors in the field. My team ensures that the items of plant RSA insure are inspected professionally in accordance with legislation therefore reducing the insured risk.
My time is split between my family, work commitments, ASNT and my local football club, in which I sit on the committee and manage a team.
For further punishment I am a season ticket holder at Bolton Wanderers.

I have been a past chairman and director of NATL and I now hold the post of regional director which incorporates Europe and South Africa.I have worked for Ruane & T.P.O'Neill, now known as Argyll-Ruane Ltd for many years deliving training on a daily basis to the NDT industry.
I was born in Sheffield and support the Owls, you work it out.

I am a Technical Manager for Oceaneering. I have a primary responsibility for the Training Department and providing technical support to the NDT Operations Department.
I have worked in NDT since 1987 in fields as diverse as aerospace to ships surveys, pressure vessels to structural steelwork, new builds to in-service inspections.
During my NDT career I have received help and support from many people in the industry, so I feel its time to give something back and help to support the people who work in NDT.

I have been a director at the North Atlantic Section since July 2008. I am employed by Goodrich Actuation Systems which is based on Merseyside and have been with them since 1991. I have worked in the NDT Industry since 1995, first as a Level II Inspector and for previous 6 years as Site ASNT Level III.
I currently hold ASNT Level 3 certifications in MT, PT and VT and NAS410/EN4179 Level 3 Acid Etch Inspection, as well as level 2 certifications for PT, MT and etch. I also hold a BSc (Hons) in Geosciences and Incorporated engineer status. I now manage the NDT
department consisting of 25 technicians across 7 inspection areas.

I have been a director on the North Atlantic Section since 1998. I work for HSB Haughton Engineering Insurance Services Ltd based in Oldham Manchester and have been with them since 1992. I have worked in the Engineering Industry since 1974 becoming more involved with the NDT Industry on joining HSB Haughton achieving my ASNT qualification along the way. I now manage the NDT section of HSB Haughton Engineering giving hands on technical support to engineering surveyors in the field. As an Area Managing Engineer I am actively involved with a team of engineering surveyors who carry out in service examinations on all types of plant across the industry
